Community Groups & Connections Minister

My parents helped to start BT when I was a junior in high school. It’s been a great experience to witness firsthand what all God has done as our church has grown up into reaching our community for Christ. I’m grateful for the chance to have grown up spiritually here under the teaching and mentorship of many awesome, dynamic, godly Christians. Plus I’m privileged to have had an opportunity to learn about Christian service while volunteering in many areas of the church since its beginnings in 1985. One of the ministries I helped with was Women’s Ministry, under the direction of one of our pastor’s wives. She was also my spiritual mom and best friend. When she unexpectedly passed away in 2002, I began sensing over the next several months that God was calling me into ministry in the church. Through a providential set of circumstances, I was highly honored and excited to be able to officially join the BT staff in 2003, and it’s been quite the adventure ever since!

That first assignment in 2003 was ministering to our women. I got to serve as Women’s Minister for 9 years, and I learned so much about how to be a minister during that time. In July 2012, I transitioned into the role of Director of Discipleship. During that 3 ½ year season of leading Cultivate Discipleship, I worked with so many gifted teachers of God’s Word. January 2016 brought another transition into my role here at BT. I was tasked with starting Compass Connections Ministry, whose purpose is to intentionally get people activated from the pews onto pathways of discipleship and volunteering.

My hope and prayer is that we would continue to follow God obediently and enthusiastically as he unveils new ways and opportunities for us to grow His Kingdom here in the Rio Grande Valley. It’s always, always, always about people and life transformation!

I was born in Pascagoula, Mississippi, but moved to McAllen at age 11 when my stepfather got a job transfer. I attended Milam Elementary during the last year 6th grade was there, cheered on the mighty Lincoln Scotties, and graduated as a proud McAllen Bulldog in 1986. I began studying Accounting at Pan American University while doing bookkeeping at my parents’ travel agency. My plans were to marry a rich banker and live on Easy Street in Dallas. But God had some different plans for me, which included marrying a farmer and living on Dirt Road in Edcouch. God delights in life disruption & dreams interrupted when He has a grander design for your life than you can imagine for yourself! Brian and I are blessed with two awesome kids, Trace and Trina, who are out on their own and serving God in their own various callings.

Now glory be to God, who by his mighty power at work within us is able to do far more than we would ever dare to ask or even dream of—infinitely beyond our highest prayers, desires, thoughts, or hopes. Eph. 3:20 (TLB)
