Living at a New Level

Joshua 1:1-9

After the death of Moses the Lord’s servant, the Lord spoke to Joshua son of Nun, Moses’s assistant: “Moses my servant is dead. Now you and all the people prepare to cross over the Jordan to the land I am giving the Israelites. I have given you every place where the sole of your foot treads, just as I promised Moses. Your territory will be from the wilderness and Lebanon to the great river, the Euphrates River—all the land of the Hittites—and west to the Mediterranean Sea. No one will be able to stand against you as long as you live. I will be with you, just as I was with Moses. I will not leave you or abandon you. “Be strong and courageous, for you will distribute the land I swore to their ancestors to give them as an inheritance. Above all, be strong and very courageous to observe carefully the whole instruction my servant Moses commanded you. Do not turn from it to the right or the left, so that you will have success wherever you go. This book of instruction must not depart from your mouth; you are to meditate on[a] it day and night so that you may carefully observe everything written in it. For then you will prosper and succeed in whatever you do. Haven’t I commanded you: be strong and courageous? Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

Exodus 14:10-15

10 As Pharaoh approached, the Israelites looked up and there were the Egyptians coming after them! The Israelites were terrified and cried out to the Lord for help. 11 They said to Moses, “Is it because there are no graves in Egypt that you have taken us away to die in the wilderness? What have you done to us by bringing us out of Egypt? 12 Isn’t this what we told you in Egypt: Leave us alone so that we may serve the Egyptians? It would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the wilderness.”

13 But Moses said to the people, “Don’t be afraid. Stand firm and see the Lord’s salvation that he will accomplish for you today; for the Egyptians you see today, you will never see again. 14 The Lord will fight for you, and you must be quiet.”

Numbers 13:32-33

32 So they gave a negative report to the Israelites about the land they had scouted: “The land we passed through to explore is one that devours its inhabitants, and all the people we saw in it are men of great size. 33 We even saw the Nephilim there—the descendants of Anak come from the Nephilim! To ourselves we seemed like grasshoppers, and we must have seemed the same to them.”

Romans 8:31

31 What, then, are we to say about these things? If God is for us, who is against us?

Hebrews 10:23

23 Let us hold on to the confession of our hope without wavering, since he who promised is faithful.

2 Corinthians 5:21

21 He made the one who did not know sin to be sin[a] for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

Genesis 3:5

“In fact, God knows that when[a] you eat it your eyes will be opened and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”

Genesis 1:26-27

26 Then God said, “Let us make man[a] in[b] our image, according to our likeness. They will rule the fish of the sea, the birds of the sky, the livestock, the whole earth, and the creatures that crawl[c] on the earth.” 27 So God created man in his own image; he created him in the image of God;
he created them male and female.

Welcome back to Community Group, this week we heard from Pastor Paul McDill. Moses had died and everyone turned to Joshua. He did not what he would do, but he did know who he would follow.  Th Lord told him that just as He was with Moses, He would be with him.

There were three points in this week’s sermon:

  1. Know Your Future

  2. Know His Promise

  3. Know Who You Are and Whose You Are

The first point, was Know Your Future. While most people want to reminisce about the past, the Lord started with “Moses my servant is dead”. Telling Joshua it time to let go of the past and look towards the future. Sure, the Lord did many miracles through Moses, but he planned to do some through Joshua as well. So many times, we get so caught up in the past, that we don’t get to experience what God has for us. It’s like when you were a child in the playground, you could not advance on the monkey bars if you did not let go of the previous bar to grab the next one. We need to move forward, run toward change, because change is inevitable. That’s why God told them, “arise and go into the new land”.

Our second point was Know His Promise. God was not basing His promises on their strength or their armies, but rather on His strength. We cannot rely on ourselves or our resources, we need to rely on His promises. His promises require us to see things through His eyes. They saw everyone as bigger than them instead of looking at how small they were when compared to God. Our faith needs to be on our God not on our enemies or our challenges. God is bigger than any enemy we will ever face. God keeps His promises and His greatest promise was Jesus.

Our final point, is Know Who You Are And Whose You Are.  So much of the new testament is spent telling us who we are in Christ. We are a new creation, completely forgiven, righteous in his sight, empowered with the Holy Spirit, adopted as sons and daughters of God and Joint heirs with Christ. Satan spends his time telling us that oldest deception, you are nothing but a sinner.

What would happen if we spent our lives seeing ourselves like Christ sees us. He sees us as: forgiven, a child of the most high king, free, a mighty man of God, and as a conqueror. We need to stop seeing ourselves as “just a sinner” and started seeing ourselves as a saint by Gods grace…..as RIGHTEOUS.

    1. This coming year, I would like to report to Pastor Chris the health of our Community Groups. I would like to tell him how many of them met that particular week and how many people were in attendance. Could you make it a habit to send me an email or a message on WhatsApp letting me know the day you me and how many were in attendance. That would be a huge blessing.

    2. Prepare your cars for Harvest Hash this year. Our CGs will have the trunk or treat sections again.

    3. Let’s continue to pray for each other and send prayer requests through our WhatsApp thread. If you are a CG Leader and are not on our WhatsApp thread please contact Meichelle at meichelle.vasquez@bt.church
