Operation Week 4 - The Eyes

Read

Hebrews 12:1-2

12 Therefore, since we also have such a large cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us lay aside every hindrance and the sin that so easily ensnares us. Let us run with endurance the race that lies before us, keeping our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of our faith. For the joy that lay before him, he endured the cross, despising the shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Summary

Welcome back to Community Group, we are in week four of our OPERATION series and today we will be focusing on The Eyes.

Our spiritual eyes are a critical part of the body because where are eyes are fixed is where we will go. The author of Hebrews says that life is like a race. When a runner runs a race, he must keep his eyes on the right things. We should run the race of life with our eyes fixed on Jesus.

This week’s sermon had 3 points and one of them was actually a shout out to our Community Groups!

The points were:

  1. Start Well

  2. Run Well (Community Groups)

  3. End Well

We will START WELL with our first point. If you have ever watched the Olympics, in particular, the track and field events, you have seen a race. If you watch closely, the runners practice coming out of the blocks several times before the race even begins. In fact they place their feet in the blocks and make sure everything fits well and is where they want it to be. Why do you think they do all of this? I am so glad you asked that question. Many runners will tell you, the race is won or lost at the start. How fast you come out of the blocks makes all the difference. That holds true to our lives, how do you start off your day? Are you coming out of your house having started your day with the Lord? Our faith should dictate how we start everyday.

Point two was RUN WELL. The middle of the race is also important, the consistency in your stride will get you to the finish line without running out of strength. Are you training your faith so that you can complete the race God has called you to run? Our race requires that we be surrounded by a large cloud of witnesses. Who are these witnesses, they are people that are running alongside you. As a member of a Community Group you know you are not running alone. You can always make a phone call or send a text and get the support you need.

Point 3 was END WELL. The goal of a race is not just to finish first, but to finish. Being a part of a Community Group helps keep you in the race, encourages you not to give up, and help you reach the goals God has for you.

Discussion

  1. How are you STARTING your daily race? Explain

  2. How do you keep life from interfering with that START? Explain

  3. How has being in a Community Group helped you RUN WELL? Explain

  4. As a COMMUNITY GROUP MEMBER, how are you helping others to RUN WELL? Explain
