Operation Week 5 - The Feet

Read

Ephesians 4:1-6

Therefore I, the prisoner in the Lord, urge you to walk worthy of the calling you have received, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, making every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to one hope at your calling— one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is above all and through all and in all.

Ephesians 2:2-10

in which you previously walked according to the ways of this world, according to the ruler of the power of the air, the spirit now working in the disobedient. We too all previously lived among them in our fleshly desires, carrying out the inclinations of our flesh and thoughts, and we were by nature children under wrath as the others were also.

But God, who is rich in mercy, because of his great love that he had for us, made us alive with Christ even though we were dead in trespasses. You are saved by grace! He also raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavens in Christ Jesus, so that in the coming ages he might display the immeasurable riches of his grace through his kindness to us in Christ Jesus. For you are saved by grace through faith, and this is not from yourselves; it is God’s gift— not from works, so that no one can boast. 10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared ahead of time for us to do.

Philippians 2:3-4

Do nothing out of selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility consider others as more important than yourselves. Everyone should look not to his own interests, but rather to the interests of others.

Summary

Welcome back to Community Group, this week we wrapped up our OPERATION series by looking at the feet. Our key verse is found in Ephesians 4:1-6. The question posed is what is, what is a worthy walk? There are 4 parts of a worthy walk:

First off, a worthy walk is DEPENDENT ON CALLING. This calling is not a calling to full time ministry, it was written to the church, not the church staff. The worth mentioned is one of value, a high value, because your call comes from Christ. You have been called by Christ. Because Ephesus was a major commerce of trade, he used scales to help them understand the value of their calling.

A worthy walk is also DEMONSTRATED BY CONSISTENCY. Consistency is not perfection, rather it is devotion. Paul says that our walk needs to be consistent with our calling. A man that has taken on the calling of a husband should not walk like a single man. He may not be a perfect husband, but he needs to be a devoted husband.

A worthy walk is DEFINED BY HUMILITY. Many of us, because we are proud, at time think we know better than God. The attitude of humility does not reek of pride. A humble person will not think himself better than anyone else. Ephesians 2 reminds us of who saved us. We were saved by grave. Philippians 2 tells us to be patient with one another. We are called to serve one another, not to be peacocks drawing attention to ourselves.

Finally, a worthy walk is DIGNIFIED BY UNITY. Unity in a community is impossible without being consistently humble. You can’t spell community without unity. We are called to be unified by a God of unity. When we are not unified, we are in violation of John 17. In his prayer, Jesus asks his followers to be one. Unity is important for our witness to the world. The proof of unity needs the existence of humility. Unity is an indicator of our walk. We can’t live out our calling if we are not walking in unity.

Next Steps:

  • Walking in unity is walking in Community (CG).

  • Walk in humility seeking to serve one another.

  • Walk in your calling, where has God given you influence.

  • Walk in your salvation, be bold as you share Christ with others.

  • Have you taken all the steps in Pathways?

    • Are you saved

    • Are you baptized

    • Are you a member of BT Church

    • Are you in a CG

    • Are you serving.

If you are missing any of these things, what are you waiting for. Take the step and walk in a worthy manner.

Discussion

  2. Are you looking for the calling of those in your family? How are you helping them walk in it?

  3. How do you demonstrate your calling to those around you?

  4. How do you make sure you are humble in your walking?

  5. How do you walk in unity?
